Australian Light Welterweight Champion - Chris McCullen

Congratulations to Chris McCullen, the new Australian Light Welterweight Champion. Your hard work and dedication has paid off Chris and we are all so proud of your extraordinary acheivements. It can now be revealed that 4 weeks out from this fight, Chris suffered from a broken hand and was unable to use it to train with. This did not stop him from intensive training and prepraration, Chris never had it in his mind to reschedule or quit. He did however, do everything possible to ensure that his hand healed as quickly as possible by using a variety of treatments, including accupuncture. Chris was able to battle through any kind of mental disadvantage that very well could have been a down fall for him, by staying focused and positive on his goal of winning the Australian Title. As a Coach, it has been a real pleasure to work with Chris and I admire his strength, dedication and open mindedness to be the best that he can. Well done Chrisee.

Opposition- A Necessary Condition

I remember a part of this song I learnt when I was a shortie (much taller now).
I don’t recall who wrote the song but here goes……

OPPOSITION
….. You can never know the good, if you've never known the bad
….. You can never be happy, if you’ve never been sad
….. You’ve got to taste the bitter, so you can know the sweet,
….. You’ve got to be hungry, to be glad that you can eat

…… You’ve got to be sick, to be grateful for your health
…… You’ve got to need money to appreciate wealth
…… You’ve got to know the problems, so you can rise above
…… You’ve got to be lonely so that you can know Love…..
…… It’s called Opposition, A Necessary Condition..

Australian Junior Welterweight Title

This coming Friday Night will be the Australian Junior Welterweight Title Fight between Chris McCullen and Brad Hemming. Chris McCullen (Alias Macca, Maxi, The Little Big Man, and Chrisee), is a true favourite of the Brisbane Boxing set, for his dedication and commitment to the sport and to the Amateur Champions that he trains in his gym at Logan.

Huia is proud to have coached Chris through his preparation for his Australian title fight. As any athlete knows, you have to push yourself through the pain barrier, time and time again to prepare your body and your mind for a battle.

Chris has been extremely honest about his experiences, the High of knowing that you couldn't possibly push yourself harder, physically or emotionally, and the Low points that coincide with the stress of trying to balance a normal life with the extreme training and strictly controlled diet of a Fighter.

One common thing that I have observed about high performing athletes, is a consistent and undeniable vision of WINNING, and the self-knowledge that they have
pushed beyond the boundaries of endurance & fear to break new ground.

I, along with many of Chris's supporters will be there to cheer him on Friday. But it is a fact that very few will understand or can appreciate the personal sacrifices that come from striving to be the very best. One thing I do know though, is that Chris is a deserving WINNER no matter what the outcome is.

One Red Paperclip

one red paperclip This is Kyle MacDonald's Blog, One Red Paperclip. In one year, Kyle traded ONE RED PAPERCLIP for a house. This is a fascinating story of ingenuity and the power of starting small and thinking big! P.S I am wondering if anyone would like to trade with me? :) Leave me a comment if you dare
